Farm mechanization is no longer a luxury—it is a necessity. To support small farmers and empower rural women, the Maharashtra government has introduced a special tractor subsidy scheme that covers up to 90% of the cost of a mini tractor. This initiative is designed to reduce the financial burden of farm machinery and improve productivity at the grassroots level.

The scheme is implemented through the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department and primarily targets women self-help groups (SHGs) from socially backward communities. By making tractors affordable, the government aims to promote self-employment, collective farming, and income stability in rural areas.

What Does the Scheme Offer?

Under this program, eligible groups can purchase a mini tractor ranging from 9 HP to 18 HP, along with basic agricultural implements. The government has fixed the maximum approved cost at ₹3.5 lakh.

Government subsidy: Up to ₹3.15 lakh (90%)

Beneficiary contribution: Only ₹35,000 (10%)

This means a tractor that would normally be out of reach becomes accessible at a very low personal investment. The subsidy amount is released in stages to ensure transparency and proper use.

Who Is Eligible?

This scheme is specifically for registered women self-help groups. To qualify:

At least 80% of the members must belong to Scheduled Caste or Neo-Buddhist communities

The group must have an active bank account linked with Aadhaar

The group should not have availed similar benefits earlier

The focus on group ownership encourages shared responsibility and better utilization of the machinery.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted at the district Social Welfare Office. The process involves submitting the application form, group documents, bank details, and identity proofs. The beneficiary share is usually paid via Demand Draft as per departmental instructions.

Currently, the scheme has been announced in select districts and is expected to expand gradually. Interested groups should stay in touch with local officials for updates and deadlines.

Why This Scheme Is Important

High equipment costs often prevent small farmers from adopting modern tools. This subsidy bridges that gap. It reduces dependence on rented machinery, lowers cultivation costs, and creates long-term assets for rural women.

In simple terms, this scheme is not just about tractors—it’s about empowerment, productivity, and sustainable farming.
